Civic life hampered by indefinite bus strike in S-W districts
5/5/2006

BARISAL, May 4 (BDNEWS): Sufferings of the commuters continue as the indefinite bus strike on 175 routes of 13 south-western districts stepped into the second day Thursday.
Buses and Minibuses Owners' Association of Barisal and Khulna divisions and Bus Workers' Union enforced the strike demanding cancellation of state-run BRTC bus services on the routes.
The transport strike triggered untold sufferings for the commuters of south-western districts including Pirojpur, Barisal, Khulna, Patuakhali, Jhalkathi, Bagerhat, Barguna, Bhola, Jessore, Madaripur and Faridpur.
Huge contingent of police were deployed in those districts to prevent any untoward situation.
The Bus Owners-Workers' Oikkya Parishad held rallies and staged demonstrations to realise their demands.
They were also demonstrating demanding the resignation of chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).
