Plant being set up to produce Oral Solid Dosage
Beximco Pharma plans to offer contract manufacturing facility
Refayet Ullah Mirdha
5/9/2006

The Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL), country's leading drug manufacturing company, is going to produce a new medicine, Oral Solid Dosage (OSD), to meet the future local and international demand.
Sources in the BPL said they have already invested $ 65 million (6.5 crore) to build the new state-of-the-art OSD manufacturing plant, complying with the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and the UK Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA) standards.
Director Marketing of the BPL, Rabbur Reza, said the new plant will offer a contract manufacturing facility to leading pharmaceutical companies, especially from the US and European countries.
US Charge d' Affaires in Bangladesh Judith A Chammas and Foreign Minister of Maldives Ahmed Shaheed Monday separately visited the company's Tongi plant.
The visiting delegates saw for themselves the drug manufacturing standards and facilities of the BPL in the production process.
"I am impressed by the standards of the BPL. The qualities and facilities are quite standard," said Chammas in a reaction after the visit.
The other pharmaceutical companies in the country should also have such facilities for manufacturing the drugs, she said.
The company authorities showed her the production process of some essential drugs including inhalers, nasal sprays, suppositories, injectables and IV fluids (saline).
During his visit the Maldives Foreign Minister has showed keen interest to import essential drugs for his country from this company.
He said the company has been producing the drugs using the latest technology and Maldives can import medicine from this company to meet the local demand.
Currently, besides other countries of the world, the BPL has been exporting medicines to four countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan of the SAARC region, the company sources said.
