DU VC denies Chhatra Shibir's comment
10/11/2005

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) SMA Faiz Monday contradicted reports of Islami Chhatra Shabir's comments about him and said the Shibir had never communicated with him, reports UNB.
"They (Shibir) never communicated with me, let alone seek my permission for engaging in active politics in the campus," the VC told reporters, claiming that the Shibir was not an active organisation.
"They never got the recognition and we all have to remain alert about them," he said.
Faiz said that "the vested quarters" were trying to destroy the image and academic atmosphere of the university. The university authorities would take stern action against them, he added.
Meanwhile, activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)-led Anti-Terrorism and Communal Alliance Monday ransacked the VC office protesting his reported remarks of Sunday on the Shibir.
The alliance also brought out a procession on the campus and chanted slogans against the Islami Chhatra Shibir. Later a meeting was held in front of the VC office.
JSD Chhatra League President Shariful Kabir Shawpan presided over the meeting. BCL President Liaquat Sikdar and General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu also spoke at the meeting and they vowed to resist Shibir on the campus at any cost.
Progressive Student Alliance, a platform of the left leaning student organisations, also brought out a procession on the DU campus and later met the VC.
