Mashud steers Bangladesh
7/30/2004

COLOMBO, July 29 (AFP) : Khaled Mashud saved Bangladesh from a batting embarrassment with a gutsy 54 against Pakistan in the inconsequential Asia Cup super-league match here Thursday.
Bangladesh were all out for 166 after tottering at 42-5, thanks to former captain Mashud's fourth half-century in 80 one-dayers.
Extras were the second-highest contributor with 37.
Pakistani paceman Mohammad Sami earned the dubious distinction of bowling the longest over in the history of one-dayers as he sent down 17 balls in his freak second over, which contained seven wides and four no-balls.
Bangladesh failed to post a competitive total despite inconsistent Pakistani bowling, losing wickets at regular intervals after electing to bat.
Fast bowler Shabbir Ahmed was the most successful bowler with 3-32 off 10 overs. Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razzaq and Sami grabbed two wickets apiece.
Opener Rajin Saleh (23), Mushfiqur Rehman (21), Tapash Baisya (14) and skipper Habibul Bashar (10) were the other batsmen to reach double-figures.
India and Sri Lanka have already qualified for the August 1 final.
