Vietnam to import electricity from China until 2010
8/17/2006

Hanoi, Aug 16 (VNA): The Electricity Company 1 of the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) corporation on Aug. 15 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to extend the contract on importing electricity from China to Viet Nam through the Mong Cai border gate till 2010.
Under the MOU signed with the Electricity Company of Guangxi province of China, the Electricity Company 1 continue to purchase electricity of China through a high-tension line to a sub-station in Viet Nam's northern border Mong Cai town with a capacity of 66 MW and an average output of more than 300 million kWh a year.
The extension of the contract will help reduce the threat of electricity shortages in Mong Cai and the Mong Duong mining area in Quang Ninh province during future dry seasons, and will ensure the safe and continuous electric supply of the national grid.
