Good earning results keep DSE shares upward

          Good half yearly earning reports by companies helped share prices keep upward trend Thursday on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
Small investors were active as maximum companies that submitted un-audited half yearly performance reports earning net profit. These results strengthened their confidence to invest idle fund in country's capital market, official of a brokerage house said.
As a result share prices of 137 issues increased out of total 198 issues traded on the day. Only 48 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
Total turnover of the market (in value) increased to Tk 480.51 million on the day, which was Tk 451.48 million Wednesday.
DSE all-share price benchmark index (DSI) advanced 16.14 points or 1.40 per cent to close at 1167.29 while DSE general index (DGEN) surged 23.92 points or 1.64 per cent to finish at 1480.74 on the day.
DSE-20 blue chip index (DS20) inched up 15.55 points or 1.09 per cent to close at 1444.48 on the day.
Share prices of Bank Asia edged up by 6.13 per cent to close at Tk 367.75 on the day.
Prices of the bank share increased as the company earned net profit of Tk 191.53 million for the six-month period ended on June 30, 2006.
Jamuna Bank gained 2.92 per cent to close at Tk 290.00 on the day. Investors are buying Jamuna Bank share to book 1.5 per cent cash and 25 per cent stock dividend as recommended by the company for calendar year 2005, market sources said.
Islami Bank lost 4.99 per cent to close at Tk 4456.25 on ex-dividend trade.
DESCO share prices scaled up by 4.10 per cent to close at Tk 297.75 to become the turnover leader on the day.
A total of 230,450 DESCO shares worth Tk 67.35 million changed hands on the day.
Share prices of Miracle Industry went down by 0.63 per cent to close at Tk 15.70 on profit-taking.
Share prices of Heidelberg Cement rose by 7.44 per cent to finish at Tk 678.25 on the day. Market sources said prices of the cement share increased as earning per share (EPS) of the company stood at Tk 51.00, according to its un-audited half yearly accounts as on June 30, 2006.
Share prices of Singer Bangladesh went up by 14.07 per cent to close at Tk 972.50 on the day. Prices of the share marked rise as Singer Cable Plant was formally inaugurated at Jhamur of Savar Tuesday to produce cables for domestic and industrial use.
