Assures US help in ensuring justice
8/4/2006

US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher Thursday met the bereaved members of Kibria family and assured United States is with them to ensure justice for the assassination of former Finance Minister SAMS Kibria, reports UNB.
"I came here to express our feelings for her husband and we made her understand that America is with her," he said after meeting the Kibria family at their Dhamondi residence.
Boucher stayed there for about 45 minutes and inquired about the status of the Kibria murder case and stressed that all political murders including Kibria's assassination should have fair trial in the interest of democratic process in Bangladesh.
Boucher told reporters that he also discussed the necessity of keeping political violence out of the election process to stop recurrence of tragic incidents like that of Kibria's assassination.
After the meeting, Asma Kibria, the widow of SAMS Kibria, told reporters that Boucher conveyed to her that the US government is with them and they would try their best to ensure fair trial of this killing.
Reza Kibria, son of SAMS Kibria, said that Boucher told them they were very much concerned about the Kibria murder case and were following the developments in this connection.
"They also asked us about the next general election and possibility to hold the election in a free and fair manner," he said.
Boucher stressed on the responsibility of the people to ensure free and fair election in Bangladesh, Reza said.
