Jamaat protests Washington Post report
8/5/2006

Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Friday strongly protested a report of Washington Post which has linked terrorism and Jamaat in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The report on Bangladesh and Jamaat-e-Islami captioned "A New Hub of Terrorism? In Bangladesh, an Islamic Movement with Al-Qaeda Ties is on the Rise" was published on August 02.
Jamaat secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed in a statement termed the report unfounded, false and misleading.
Mojaheed, also the Social Welfare Minister, said there is an effort in the report to tarnish the image of Jamaat, a party that is thoroughly democratic and has uninterrupted representation in all parliaments of Bangladesh.
He said: "It's really astonishing that such an untrue and baseless report was published in an influential daily of the USA like Washington Post."
Mojaheed urged the authorities of the Washington Post to refrain from publishing "such imaginary reports" in the future.
