Country's 25pc people suffering from allergy-related diseases
9/23/2005

Health and Family Welfare Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said Thursday about 25 per cent people of the country have been suffering from allergy related diseases, reports BSS.
"Most of the allergic patients show indifference to consult the physicians," he observed.
However, he suggested all to take medical advice from physicians to avoid any sort of health hazard.
The minister said this while addressing as the chief guest the third national conference of Bangladesh Society of Allergy and Immunology (BANSAI), a member of World Allergy Association.
Vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University and President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) MA Hadi, General Secretary AZM Jahid Hossain and leaders of BANSAI addressed the function held at the BCPS auditorium here.
Mosharraf said allergy and asthma are coexisting and the number of asthma patients and asthma related health problems are increasing alarmingly in the country.
"About 7 million (70 lakh) people are suffering from asthma or asthma related diseases while about seven lakh patients, mostly of low income group, could not get medicare facilities" he said.
Population increase, environmental pollution, unplanned urbanisation, indiscriminate use of pesticides and insecticides, and use of chemical fertilisers led to increase in allergy related diseases, he added.
Three papers on "Rising the challenges of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh", "Respiratory Symposium" and "Allergy & Immunology" were presented in the conference.
