Hazardous buildings still in use in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Sep 26: Hazardous buildings, located at different neighbourhoods of the port-city have not yet been demolished in spite of large scale earthquake apprehension, which may lead to losses in life and property any moment.
According to experts, Chittagong city is one of the highest tremor-risk areas of the country. A few days ago, it was jolted twice within a span of two and a half hours. Also, and more alarmingly, the city experienced 23 earthquakes, albeit minor ones, so far this year.
But no steps are being taken to redress matters.
After Chittagong city and the Hill districts were shaken by earthquake on July 27, 2003, the Institute of Engineers, Chittagong centre, formed a task force to determine the nature and impact of earthquake and probable loss following a temblor of catastrophic proportions.
