9/30/2005

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is likely to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at Valletta in Malta on November 25-27, reports UNB.
Foreign Secretary Hemayetuddin told diplomatic correspondents Thursday that the CHOGM would deal with issues of global challenges, terrorism, conflict resolution, democracy, transparency, freedom of judiciary, economic stability and millennium development goals (MDGs).
Hemayet who leaves Dhaka for New York on October 2 to attend the current United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session said on way he would attend the meeting of senior officials of the Commonwealth countries in London on October 3-4.
The foreign secretaries of the Commonwealth countries would discuss various issues of cooperation, particularly, establishing the networking for development among the Commonwealth member states.
They will also discuss the draft of the CHOGM communiqué to be placed at the Commonwealth Summit in Malta for approval.
In London, he will also hold bilateral meetings with senior officials of the British Foreign Office and Commonwealth on mutual cooperation. He will also meet the secretary general of Commonwealth.
In Washington, Hemayet will meet his counterpart of the US State Department and other think tanks when he is expected to project Bangladesh's viewpoints on pressing international and domestic issues.
On his way back home on October 17, he will go to The Hague where he will meet his Dutch counterpart to discuss issues of mutual interest.
