JCD, BCL clashes leave 31 hurt in Sirajganj College
9/30/2005

SIRAJGANJ, Sept 29 (UNB): Clashes between Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists Thursday on the Government University College campus left 31 students injured on both sides.
Campus sources said the clashes erupted at the campus around mid-day when JCD activists allegedly objected to BCL trying to form class units of their organisation.
The police was called in to break up the fighting groups and restore order after nearly two hours. Two BCL activists were detained by the police.
During the violence, agitated students damaged 12 shops around the campus, college sources said, adding 11 of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
As tension spread outside the campus, the nearby residence of District AL organising secretary KM Hossain Ali Hasan came under attack allegedly by JCD activists. The police used batons to disperse the attackers.
