Election for the office-bearers of the Chittagong Association (Chattagram Samity, Dhaka) will be held tomorrow (Friday), said a press release.
Chittagong Association, Dhaka is a high profile organisation with its 10-storied building and many of its socio-cultural activities.
In the election, there are two main panels -- a full panel led by Abul Alam Chowdhury (presidential candidate) and another partial panel led by Abdul Momen Chowdhury.
Abu Alam Chowdhury, owner and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Conexpo Crafts & Conexpo Hometex, is a leading exporter of the country having received National Gold Export Trophy for nine occasions for outstanding exports performance.
Chowdhury has been in the elite list of Commercially Important Person (CIP) for the last 16 years.
He has notable background of socio-cultural activities from student life and was elected cultural secretary and acting general secretary (GS) of Chittagong University Central Students Union (CUCSU).
In trade leadership, he served as director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 12 years in six terms.
Chowdhury, a popular name in the activities of the association, is the existing senior vice president and remains in the same post for the last four years.
He rendered his services to the association as convener of Chittagong Festival, convener and chairman of Editorial Board for yearly publication 'Chattal Shikha' (three times) etc.
Abdul Momen Chowdhury joined the association two years before. He is now one of the vice presidents of the association.
As a candidate from the mainstream member group Abu Alam Chowdhury along with his Secretary General candidate ATM Pearul Islam is expected to win the election, say the insiders in the association.
