Bombings, anti-government agitation to achieve same goal: Nizami

12/29/2005

Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami Wednesday said the bombings and the anti-government movement have the same goal - making Bangladesh a haven of so-called Islamic militants and creating ground for foreign intervention, reports UNB.
"Instead of cooperating with the government against the bombers, they (opposition) are demanding expulsion of an ally (Jamaat) of the government and seeking reforms; these raise question about their motive," he told a huge rally at Paltan Maidan.
Nizami, who is also the Industries Minister, said a certain quarter is "lobbying in and outside the country to prove the alliance government a failure and dysfunctional." The bomb attacks were being made at a time when foreign investors are coming here in a big way, he said.
Terming the bombers as elements isolated from the people, the Jamaat ameer said the vested quarters are trying to reap political benefit out of the bomb blasts. JMB is implementing the agenda of those who want to see Bangladesh as failed and dysfunctional, and a satellite State.
"JMB is a force of terrors and militants. They are misguided and derailed, they' ve no relation with Islam. And they've not the minimum capability of establishing Islam," he told the cheering rally, attended by thousands of Jamaat activists and its front organisations who converged at Paltan from nook and corners of the country.
Nizami said most bombers at the field level have been captured. Many of their top brasses were nabbed and hopefully, the remaining big shots would be caught soon as the law enforcers have been able to identify their camps and recover their arms and ammunition.
"Those who have been captured confessed to their mistakes and some even sought apology for their misdeeds," he said as Jamaat activists wearing white caps, pajama and panjabi raised frequent slogans of "Nara-e-Takbir, Allahu Akbar."
About the Prime Minister's dialogue with political parties and professionals, he said many are participating in the dialogue to prove that the whole nation stood united against the conspiracies of the bombers to make Bangladesh a satellite State.
"It's the moral and constitutional responsibility of the opposition to assist the government at a time of national crisis," Nizami said, adding that the opposition on the contrary was saying that bombings would stop if Jamaat is ousted from the cabinet and reforms of caretaker government are realised.
The Jamaat chief alleged that the opposition is trying to split the nation when national unity is a dire necessity. "We wish them good health and hope good sense will prevail on those who speak about elimination and ouster," he said urging the opposition to "return to healthy politics by shunning the path of destructive and irresponsible politics."
