Extra-time extravaganza takes Abahani to final

1/6/2006

Two extra-time goals from Arif Khan Joy and Abdullah Parvez took Abahani Limited in the Nitol-Tata 5th National Football League final with an exciting 2-1 victory over last year's runners-up Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra in the first semis at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Thursday, reports BDNEWS.
Now, Abahani will meet the winners of the Friday's match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Brothers Union in the final Sunday at the same venue.
The former champions Abahani Limited are not only confirmed their season's first final berth, but also continued their unbeaten run for 18 matches -- ten matches in last premier league and eight matches in the ongoing league - after conceding a 1-2 defeat to Brothers Union in the Premier League first-leg on July 7 last year.
Skipper Joy headed home in the 112th minute following a Abdullah Parvez' right-flank corner while Abahani's Ghanaian striker Awudu Ibrahim failed to beat country's number one custodian Aminul Islam in one-on-one situation after being set up by Abadullah Parvez's through pass.
It was Abdullah Parvez, who made 2-0 with an angular shot after dodging past Aminul in the 114th minute from a counter attack.
Odafa after being set up by Titu inside the box reduced the Muktijoddha Sangsad margin with a side volley from the right four minutes from extra time.
