Family members of slain politicians demand trial of killers

2/13/2005

The orphans and widows of slain politicians stood hand in hand alongside hundreds of protesters in the capital Saturday demanding justice for the killings of their fathers or husbands, reports UNB.
Asma Kibria, Reza Kibria and other members of the Kibria family, Russel MP, son of ex-MP Ahsanullah Master, Niva Momtaz, daughter of ex-MP Momtaz Hossain of Natore, and Abdullah-Al-Mamun, son of Manjurul Imam of Khulna, and family members of journalist Manik Saha came out on the street for justice.
The countrywide human-chain programme was called by the Kibria family to protest the brutal killing of the Awami League parliamentarians and leaders.
"The nation cannot run this way. Whatever needs to be done, do it now," said Asma Kibria, the widow of Shah AMS Kibira.
"We must carry on the movement unitedly until the killers are punished," she added.
Niva Momtaz said, " For the last two years I have not got justice of the cruel killing of my father."
She also appealed to the people for doing whatever is possible for bringing the culprits to justice.
Russel, elected to parliament from his father's constituency in Tongi, said:
"Those who killed my father were not yet tried, but those who had protested the killing were put in jail.
The human chain over, Asma Kibria launched a signature campaign by putting her signature in red ink on a white piece of cloth demanding trial of the killers.
