Reform must to ensure change of govt: Hasina

Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said the change of government should be ensured by free and fair election through reforming the caretaker government system and the Election Commission, reports UNB.
"The alliance government has become desperate to consolidate their power… that's why they appointed partisan people in all areas related to the election process," she said in a statement expressing her gratitude to the people for observing the 14-party sponsored dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country.
Hasina, the president of Awami League, alleged that the BNP-led alliance government had appointed a controversial person as Chief Election Commissioner with a view to rigging vote in the next elections.
"We want to make Bangladesh a non-communal, democratic, hunger-free, developed and safe country… for this, we have to remove the corrupt and plunderer government as it came to power through conspiracy and vote rigging," she said.
The opposition leader alleged that the number of communal militants has risen alarmingly in the country after the BNP formed the government with the anti-liberation force Jamaat-e-Islami.
These militants turned the country into a terrorist country by grenade and bomb attacks, she said.
The former Prime Minister said the law and order of the country has broken down and prices of essentials went up beyond the reach of the common man.
"The government is now engaged only in corruption and looting to make mountain of wealth," she said.
Hasina vowed to reestablish democracy, rule of law and human rights in the country "forcing this government to resign by mass movement."
She condemned "unprovoked police attack" on peaceful processions brought out by AL activists during the hartal hours at Dhaka University, Mirpur, Paltan and Russel Square areas in the city that injured hundreds of opposition activists.
The Awami League chief demanded immediate and unconditional release of those arrested during the hartal hours and withdrawal of the `false cases' filed against them.
