PM asks children to build themselves for an enlightened Bangladesh

3/29/2006

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia asked the children of the country to build them up so that they may present an enlightened Bangladesh before the world community, reports BDNEWS.
"I believe that the world will find an enlightened Bangladesh through you," she said addressing the prize-giving ceremony of Notun Kunri 2005 at the Bangladesh Television auditorium Tuesday.
She reminded the children that the country earned independence through sacrifices, pains and sorrows of many people. "Now this is our country... there is no outsider to rule us. We have to develop our country ourselves."
Referring to observance of Independence Day couple of days back, the PM said: A major task of the independence is to be responsible, responsible for own-self, responsible for others.
"Your main task is study. At the same time you have to flourish yourself through creative works," she said mentioning that late President Ziaur Rahman had introduced the Notun Kunri competition so that talents of the children may flourish.
Khaleda Zia called it unfortunate that the Notun Kunri competition was suspended for several years and said, "We are happy to reintroduce the competition", considered as biggest creative competition for the children of the country.
The PM later distributed prizes among the winners of Notun Kunri 2005 and shook hands with the competitors.
Information Minister M Shamsul Islam also spoke.
