HC doesn't vacate restraining order on Chunnu's judicial activities

3/29/2006

The High Court (HC) heard Tuesday a petition filed by Rezaul Karim Khan Chunnu to vacate its order banning his judicial activities, but did not vacate the restraining order.
The HC, however, kept the petition of Chunnu-a 'controversial' divisional special judge of Dhaka-pending for hearing along with the matters regarding the original case on April 17. On February 13, following a writ petition filed as public interest litigation, by Khairul Alam Pipul, a lawyer of the Supreme Court (SC), the same bench of the HC imposed an ad-interim ban for two weeks on judicial activities of Chunnu for his alleged participation in the political activities of ruling BNP.
The HC bench also issued a rule upon the government and Rezaul Karim Khan Chunnu to show cause as to why legal action should not taken against Chunnu for his alleged misconduct under government service rule.
