Bird-flu panic spreads over bordering areas

3/29/2006

COMILLA, Mar 28 (BDNEWS): Bird-flu panic hit the people of the border areas in the district as the influx of chicks from the neighbouring country continued.
Smugglers are smuggling chicks into Bangladesh unabated through different points including Chouddagram, Bibirbazar, Sashidal and Rajapur, local people alleged.
They said the Indian chicks are coming every day from Agartala, Bishalgar, Udaypur, Manubazar, Chotoharina, Chotakhola and Sabroom under Tripura state.
The smugglers buy each chick at Tk 12 to 14 and then sell it to different poultry farms in Bangladesh for Tk 20 to 25.
