Factory sources said construction of the extended factory building of Jerin Composite Limited started a month ago and ceiling casting of the ground floor began Friday morning.
"The ceiling caved in when more than 200 workers were engaged in casting the 4000 square-foot roof over the ground floor at about 1.00pm today", says a firsthand account of the incident.
Fire fighters and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members rushed in and got down to conducting rescue operation.
"Several injured people might still be trapped under the debris," said an official of the rescuers.
Qamruzzaman, a sub-contractor for the construction work, told the news agency that faulty and weak shuttering was one of the causes of the collapse.
