Rokon ton guides Beximco to win

A brilliant century by national batsman Al Shahriar Rokon guided Beximco Group to their 2nd consecutive victory in the GrameenPhone Corporate Cricket League beating newcomers Orion Group by 229 runs Saturday, reports UNB.
In the day's other two matches, Epyllion Group and Gazi Tank Cricketers maintained their all-win record in the league beating their rivals at separate venues.
At the Khulna Division Stadium, Beximco Group, which posted a 42-run win over Acme Laboratories in their first match, batted first after winning the toss to amass 324 runs for 5 wickets in stipulated 50 overs.
National colour top order batsman Al Shahriar Rokon scored the first century of the league hammering 147 runs off 119 balls with 13 fours and eight sixes before caught by Saiful Islam off a Shuvro delivery.
Rashedul Haque Sumon made useful 68 runs off 105 balls with seven fours while national batting sensation Mohammad Ashraful scored 54 runs off 51 balls with six fours.
Saiful Alam and Suhrawardy Shuvro grabbed two wickets each for 56 and 63 runs respectively, bowling 10 overs each while Jewel Hossain Mona got the other wicket for 54 runs.
In reply, Orient Group, which conceded a 50-run defeat against Jamuna Bank in the first match, were dismissed for 95 runs in 36.2 overs. Sajjad Ahmed top scored with 19 runs off 42 balls that featured two fours.
Sohag (17), Chayan (13), Ruben (10) and Shuvro (10) were the other notable scorers for the Orient Group.

At the Bogra Stadium, Epyllion Group registered their 2nd consecutive win in the Corporate Cricket League beating all- losers Bangla Cat by 166 runs Saturday.
Epyllion Group, which posted a five-wicket victory over Araf Apparels in their first appearance, opened the innings first after winning the toss to score 215 runs for all in 50 overs.
One down batsman Moniruzzaman made the match highest 89 runs off 121 balls with six fours and two sixes while opener Sajjadul Hasan made 50 off 108 balls that featured three fours.
Opener Sajjadul Hasan pairing with Maniruzzaman gave a solid foundation to their innings contributing 129 runs in 33.4 overs in the second wicket stand after the dismissal of national opener Shahriar Nafees for duck leaving team total a 2 in two balls.
In reply, Bangla Cat, which earlier handed down a 125-run defeat to Gazi Tank Cricketers, were bundled out cheaply for 49 runs in 25.1 overs against devastating bowling by Saju Datta and Shahadat Hossain Rajib.
Saju Datta grabbed four wickets for 10 runs in 5.1 overs while national pacer Shahadat Hossain Rajib claimed three wickets for 14 runs in seven overs.

Favored by coin, Gazi Tank Cricketers batted first to score 243 runs for all in 49.5 overs with national all rounder Manjarul Islam Rana contributing 63 runs off 94 balls that featured five fours and a six.
Top order national batsman Aftab Ahmed Chowdhury hammered 59 runs off 41 balls with 12 fours, Mahmudullah Riad scored 51 runs off 86 balls with three fours while former national captain Khaled Mahmud made 31 of 21 balls with one four and two sixes.
In reply, MM Ispahani Limited were all out for 195 in 47.1 overs with opener Nafees Iqbal making 50 off 84 balls that included three fours.
Monirul Islam bagged three wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs.
