President for deepening bilateral ties between Bangladesh, Serbia

President Iajuddin Ahmed underscored the need for exchange of visits at the political level to expand and deepen the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Serbia.
The President said this while the newly appointed Ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro to Bangladesh Vuk Zugic presented his credentials to the former at the Bangabhaban Monday, reports BSS.
Welcoming the envoy resident in New Delhi and concurrently accredited to Bangladesh, Iajuddin recalled the existing cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.
The President reiterated Bangladesh's determination to further consolidate and develop the existing relations between the two.
There is ample scopes for enhancement of trade between the two countries and good prospects for its diversification, he mentioned.
The President said Bangladesh has many products to offer to Serbia and Montenegro such as garments, leather products, ceramics, pharmaceuticals and other items.
He invited investment in Bangladesh taking advantage of the incentives provided by the government.
Bangladesh has achieved notable improvement in its human development indicators over the recent decade including in primary education enrolment, fertility rates and gender equality through various conscious policies including free education of up to 12th grade, poverty alleviation through micro-credit, maternal and child health care and provision of safe drinking water, he said.
The country has emerged as one of the largest contributors of troops to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (UNPKO), the President said.
He mentioned the importance of the South Asian Association for Regional Coooperation (SAARC) in the pursuit of regional peace and security.
He also expressed confidence that the 13th SAARC summit would take place in Dhaka on 12-13 November 2005.
Iajuddin requested the ambassador to convey his regards to the president of Serbia and Montenegro Svetozar Marovic.
He expressed his sincere hope that the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened during his tenure.
He wished the ambassador all success in his new assignment and assured him of all possible support and cooperation in the discharge of his duties.

He appreciated the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in UN and underscored the need for consultation with his government to open a mission in Bangladesh.
Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, the ambassador was given a guard of honour by the President's Guard Regiment (PGR) where he took salute and inspected the guard.
Secretary to the President Md Abu Solaiman Chowdhury, MSP ANM Muniruzzaman, Press Secretary M Mukhlesur Rahman Chowdhury and Ambassador Nazrul Islam from foreign ministry were present on the occasion.
