Sangu resumes gas supply
FE Report
10/29/2005

Sangu field resumed supply of gas Friday after suspension of production briefly due to mechanical fault.
The hydraulic pump of the gas field leaked causing the sudden halt in gas supply Thursday afternoon. However, the field started gas production at 11.30am Friday after the repair of the fault, said a senior official of Cairn Energy Plc that operates the field.
"The fault was detected Thursday night and we repaired it properly Friday morning," said the official.
Sangu, the country's lone offshore gas field, has a production capacity of around 170 mmcfd (million cubic feet per day).
The suspension of gas supply from Sangu field adversely affected the production in Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company (Kafco), Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), Shikalbaha Power Plant and a barge-mounted power plant Thursday.
However, production in Raozan power plant and Karnaphuli Paper Mills (KPM) continued with minimum gas supply from other gas fields of the country.
