11/1/2005

SINGAPORE, Oct 31 (Reuters): Singapore's unemployment rate inched lower to 3.3 per cent in the September quarter, in line with market expectations, as more jobs were created in the services and manufacturing sectors, data showed today.
A poll of economists had forecast that the seasonally adjusted jobless rate would fall to 3.2 per cent in the third quarter, from 3.4 per cent in the second quarter.
"All major sectors registered employment growth. The bulk of employment gains came from the services sector," the Ministry of Manpower said in its preliminary labour market report.
Singapore's economy is forecast to expand by as much as 4.5 per cent this year, driven by strong growth in manufacturing and tourism.
