SID/DANIDA training on seed production ends
FE Report
11/1/2005

A two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Seed Production was organised by SEBA Limited in two batches in the city recently.
Sponsored by SID/DANIDA, the programme was attended by 40 field officials from the DAE, the BADC and some local NGOs.
The trainers will, in turn, impart training to about 850 farmers of 40 seed producing groups in 18 districts under the project. These groups will produce good quality seeds and market the same in project areas to ensure supply of quality seed at farmers' level.
The closing session of the programme was attended by Director General (Seed Wing) of the Ministry of Agriculture Anwar Faruq, SID/DANIDA Senior Adviser Stephen Preston and senior officials of DAE, BADC and SEBA Limited.
The Seed Industry Development (SID) project financed by DANIDA has taken up a two-year programme for producing 1000 tonnes of quality seeds through 40 farmer-based seed producing groups in 18 districts of the country. SID intends to promote the private seed sector through formation of small private seed enterprises in rural areas.
