CHITTAGONG, Nov 08: An unauthorised salt factory was unearthed in Baizid Bostami area in the port city and pilferage of gas worth millions of taka was detected recently.
Being assigned with additional task of detecting pilferage of gas of Bakhrabad Gas System Limited (BGSL) and realising its outstanding bills, Chittagong Port Magistrate Munir Chowdhury unearthed the illegally built salt factory while he was leading a mobile court.
BGSL had no magistrate earlier and no mobile court was assigned for detecting pilferage and misuse of gas in this sector.
Moreover, a strong syndicate of some corrupt officials and CBA (collective bargaining agent) leaders are involved in these illegal activities for long.
The syndicate of BGSL is also involved in supplying gas to different mills and factories illegally in Kalurghat area, Fauzdarhat industrial belt, Pahartali and Nasirabad areas in collaboration with the corrupt officials of the concerned mills and factories.
Different sources said the BGSL syndicate leaders are earning huge amounts of money while the government is being deprived of millions of taka.
