Ex-ambassador exposes British 'pygmies' in Washington
11/9/2005
LONDON, Nov 8 (AFP): Many of Britain's top politicians failed to gain the respect of their US counterparts when they visited Washington in the run-up to the Iraq war, Britain's former ambassador to the United States has claimed. In the latest extract to be published of Sir Christopher Meyer's memoirs, some of the nation's most senior cabinet members come under fire for being virtual "pygmies" in their dealings with the US administration. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, former defence secretary Geoff Hoon and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott all come in for criticism in "DC Confidential", serialised by the Guardian and the Daily Mail newspapers.
