China contributes to dev of country's water sector

Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said Tuesday that Chinese contribution to the water sector is playing an important role for the economic development of the country, reports BSS.
He made the comment when the visiting six-member delegation of the Beijing-based Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) led by its Vice-President Wang Yunze called on him at his secretariat office in the city.
China, a tested friend and a development partner of Bangladesh, contributed a lot to the water resources management, the minister said adding that, "About 65 per cent water flows into Bangladesh through the Brahmaputra river with its origin in China."
Hafiz Uddin thanked the members of the delegation for Chinese help and cooperation, particularly for the development of agriculture and irrigation facilities in the country, an official handout said.
Mentioning the important Chinese contributions to Bangladesh's Defense, cultural and sport sectors, he expressed the hope that the cooperation will be further strengthened in the coming days.
During the meeting, Wang Yunze said he will put in his efforts to further strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh and China. He said that he would request the Chinese authorities to extend more development cooperation, particularly in the water resources management of Bangladesh.
