RAB launches river patrol around capital

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Tuesday launched river patrol around the capital as thousands of paramilitary and military troops built a security bulwark for the 13th SAARC summit in Dhaka.
RAB sources told the UNB that 16 units of the storm-trooping elite force started patrolling the waterways around the city, including the Buriganga, the Turag, the Shitalakhya and the Balu.
Meanwhile, two chopper units of the RAB started dress rehearsal for scouting the South Asian leaders on the 10 venues of the summit, including the ways of their arrival and movement in and out of the city.
"The helicopters would hover overhead providing a foolproof security cover for the guests from the airport on their arrival in the capital on November 11 and 12," according to sources.
On the other hand, armed RAB personnel would keep a close eye on the 10 venues.
They would also guard the guests at the Savar mausoleum and ensure the road security from their hotels up to the summit venues, sources added.
They said 10 dog squads have been deployed at the venues as well as vulnerable points across the city.
