Russia coach Yury Syomin resigns

MOSCOW, Nov 8 (AFP): Russia coach Yury Syomin has stepped down after failing to reach the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.
Syomin was given the job of qualifying Russia for Germany after Georgy Yartsev resigned in April but Russia were pipped for a World Cup play-off place by Slovakia.
Syomin said he hoped to continue as a club coach.
