Armed Forces Day today

11/21/2005

The Armed Forces Day will be observed today (Monday) to mark the occasion of a counter-offensive against the Pak occupation army during the Bangladesh Liberation War, reports UNB.
On this day in 1971, army, navy and air-force jointly attacked the Pakistani forces, and the combined counter-offensive quickened the nation's victory in war.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia gave separate messages greeting all the members of the armed forces on the occasion.
Iajuddin Ahmed said: "Armed forces are symbol of dignity for a nation."
In a separate message, the Prime Minister said: "This day is very important in our national history."
Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs, conveyed her sympathies to the injured freedom fighters and also greeted the soldiers who participated in the Liberation War.
