11/21/2005

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) will soon publish its first ever monetary policy review with a view to informing all stakeholders about the monetary developments.
The review will be accompanied by a statement from the central bank governor.
The central bank has already set up a policy analysis unit under the research department of the BB to prepare the review on half-yearly basis.
The draft of the first monetary policy review has already been submitted to the BB governor for his consideration, official sources said.
"We are now working to publish a monetary policy review and a monetary policy statement," a BB senior official told the FE Sunday.
He also said the BB governor is designated to make the monetary policy statement on monetary issues.
Different key macroeconomic indicators including money and foreign exchange markets situation will be included in the policy review document for ensuring accountability and transparency of the country's central bank, sources in the BB said.
The BB is likely to make forecast about monetary functions, including repurchase agreement (repo) and reverse repo operations and setting up of theses rates, setting of the bank rate and the broad money reserve, the sources added.
"We are hopeful that the policy document will able to help the stakeholders including the money market players by providing the necessary information," another BB official noted.
Currently, the central bank is publishing its annual report with a minor analysis of monetary projections, sources added.
