Govt to take wide security steps 14-party to paralyse country if grand rally obstructed: Jalil

Leaders of 14-party alliance Sunday warned that they would paralyse the country if their planned grand rally Tuesday were obstructed, report agencies. "We asked our supporters to build resistance wherever they face any obstruction," Awami League general secretary Abdul Jalil MP, also coordinator of the alliance, told a press conference. He warned that the government would have to shoulder the responsibility of any consequence arising out of any bid to foil the grand rally. Jalil urged the supporters to make the grand rally with the slogan "let's go to Dhaka" a success. The press conference at the Dhanmondi office of AL president Sheikh Hasina was also attended by Abdur Razzak MP, Suranjit Sengupta MP and Matia Chowdhury of AL, Rashed Khan Menon and Bimal Biswas of Workers Party, Hasanul Haq Inu and Mainuddin Khan Badal of JSD, Dilip Barua of Samyabadi Dal, Alhaj Abdus Samad of Gano Azadi League, Nurul Islam of Ganotantri Party, advocate Zahirul Islam of Gano Forum and 11-party convenor advocate Shafiqur Rahman. Another report adds, State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar said Sunday that additional security measures would be taken ahead of Awami League's grand rally tomorrow (Tuesday) in the city. "It is an important event of opposition Awami League and government will take all out measures so that the rally is held peacefully," the state minister told newsmen after a meeting of the just concluded SAARC Summit Security Committee.
