Fresh seismic survey proposed ahead of third round bidding
11/21/2005
A proposal for conducting fresh seismic survey in the country's deep-sea areas prior to the proposed third round bidding for hydrocarbon exploration is likely to go to the cabinet for approval soon, reports UNB Energy Ministry sources said if the proposal is approved by the Cabinet, a tender will be floated to invite international expert firms to conduct the planned survey. After completion of the survey, which may take three to four months time, the government will go for third round bidding for the hydrocarbon exploration. They said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has given the go-ahead to the move of the Energy Ministry which sent the proposal to the Ministry of Law and Justice today (Sunday) seeking its vetting. Official sources said earlier Petrobangla, the state hydrocarbon agency, prepared a draft policy and guidelines for the international tender. The survey is being designed to get the latest data on the country's hydrocarbon resources which would pave the way for the third round bidding, the sources said.
