JS bill proposes tough penalty for power tampering

11/21/2005

An amendment bill was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Sunday proposing tough penalty against dishonestly obtaining and consuming electricity. The bill titled Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2005 proposed that a person would be deemed to have dishonestly obtained, consumed or used energy if he is found to have tempered or interfered with the set order of wiring connection of any meter or measuring apparatus. The bill has also proposed enhancement of penalty of both imprisonment and fine for such offences. If passed, the bill will replace the Electricity Act, 1910. — BSS
