Powerful bombs recovered in Chittagong, Sirajganj JMB threatens to blow off DU female hall

Outlawed Jama'atul Mujahi-deen Bangladesh (JMB) has threatened to blow off a female dormitory of Dhaka University (DU), report agencies. The hall authorities received a yellow letter by post at around 1:30pm. The letter, small and torn, was written in hand, which was posted from GPO on December 7, was addressed to hall provost Prof Shamima Nasrin Shahed and said, "Forbid your students not to sit around hall premises after 7:00pm." At the end of the letter 'JMB' was written in Bengali. Students used to sit and gather around the four female student residential halls after evening till 9:30pm. Authorities received another false threat over phone to explode university's Curzon Hall almost at the same time. Meanwhile, law enforcers have recovered two powerful bombs in Chittagong and Sirajganj districts Thursday. In Chittagong, a powerful bomb was recovered from in front of Railway High School near Polo Ground at about 10:10am. In Sirajganj, Sadar Thana police also recovered a powerful bomb at Kala Chandermor in the town at about 8:30am. Police have arrested five suspected members of JMB, including a cohort of JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, from city's Pallabi area Wednesday. Police arrested them acting on the confessional statements of Toriqul Islam alias Milon Islam Mithu, who was arrested in Chittagong on Sunday and was brought to Dhaka on Tuesday. The team, led by Assistant Commissioners Shah Shafiur Rahman and Mosharraf Hossain Miaji, conducted separate drives in Pallabi in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested -- Abdur Rahman, 45, Kamaluddin, 31, M Hasan, 37, and Farhad Nasim, 25. According to their statement, the DB police arrested Nazrul Islam Rubel alias Jewel, 26, from near Shaheed Zia Women College of Mirpur. Meanwhile, outlawed JMB in a letter has threatened to kill the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh district. Sources said DC M Azhar Ali received the letter Thursday morning that reads: "We'll kill you and your family members if police arrest any JMB member in the district as we have become JMB activists for establishing Islamic rule." Members of banned JMB have also threatened to blow off Habiganj DC office. The cadres of JMB issued a letter threatening to blow off the DC office if the law enforcers do not stop 'harassing' the members of JMB. In Sathkhira, activists of JMB have threatened the headmaster of Rasulpur High School in the town not to send his students at the Victory Day rally to be held at the local stadium on December 16. The threat came in a hand written letter, sent in the name of JMB reached the headmaster by post on Wednesday. In the letter they said they would be present at the stadium on the day. However, five suspected activists of JMB were arrested from different parts of the district Wednesday night. The arrested were taken into custody for interrogation. In Sherpur, Nalitabari thana police have arrested a member of JMB in Garkanda area under Nalitabari upazila, police said Thursday. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Wahiduzzaman alias Daksu (42) of Bhati Baratia village under Nakli upazila of Kishoreganj district. In Nilphamari, after the threat of JMB to blow off the Nilphamari Government Boys High School and Chilahati Merchant High School, two kids were injured when a bomb exploded in the Boarding Para area of Nilphamari town Thursday morning. The injured were identified as Rezaul Islam (7), son of Dulal Hossain and Raihan Hossain Moon (8), son of Mosharraf Hossain. Police said that a group of boys found eight bombs on the Nilphamari Government College premises at about half past 11 am and they had taken those to their houses thinking those to be playing objects. When they tried to open the green tapes that covered the objects, suddenly one of the bombs exploded leaving Rezaul and Moon injured. In Panchagarh, two suspected JMB activists were taken on a five-day remand Thursday for interrogation about bomb blasts.
