Govt firm to root out suicide bombings

12/11/2005

The government is determined to eliminate the menace of suicide bombings, terrorism and anarchy from the country.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Moudud Ahmed said this while speaking at a discussion on the occasion of the 11th Biswajanin Prarthana (universal prayer) organised by Hakkani Anjuman, Bangladesh at the National Press Club in the city Saturday, reports BSS.
The minister said people are the main strength of the government to eliminate the bombers.
Moudud said the Prime Minister as the leader of the 140 million (14 crore) people has taken up the issue of suicide bomb attacks as a national crisis.
As such, she has called for a national dialogue with all to resolve the issue, he said.
Referring to the dialogue of the then Awami League chief Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for long more than a week with the Pakistan rulers after March 7, 1971, the law minister said, "What is the problem to sit together now if the dialogue was possible at that time?"
"Don't you want to identify the militants or suicide bombers?", he asked the AL leaders.
Moudud said a national determination was required to root out the bombers and expressed the hope that the BNP would face the evil force with the support of the people.
Chaired by Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce Barkat Ullah Bulu, the function was addressed, among others, by former state ministers Netai Roy Chowdhury and Golam Sarwar Milon, BRTC Chairman Taimur Alam Khandakar, former Director General of Islamic Foundation Syed Ashraf Ali, Southeast University Vice Chancellor M Shamsher Ali and Moazzem Hossain.
