Initiative to evict illegal occupants of Rajshahi city's dam soon
1/23/2006

RAJSHAHI, Jan 22 (UNB): The district administration and the Water Development Board will take a legal initiative against those who illegally occupied the city's dam and its nearby land areas.
Sources said City Corporation Mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu himself would be involved in the eviction drive soon.
In an opinion exchange meeting with local professionals in the city's Shisu Academy recently, the City Mayor assured them that within seven days he will evict the encroachers from the city's dam and the nearby land.
On September 28 last year, a drive led by the city mayor, evicted a garden and farmhouse of Joynal Abedin Dulal and Simla Park of Khandaker Hasan Kabir. Later High Court in a ruling asked the city mayor to stop the drive.
City mayor and the district administration later appealed against the HC ruling.
In a bid to make the drive successful, a five-member committee, headed by additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Munir Hossain, has been formed.
In a statement recently he said that a decision was taken to evict the illegal occupants from district's Bhaga to Godagari areas.
When contacted, superintending engineer of the Water Development Board Abdul Mannan said, "Eviction drive is a continuous process and we will start it soon".
