Role of media vital for growth of business, investment
FE Report
1/26/2006

Chittagong's business community has said that media could play a vital role in flourishing business and attracting more investment. They also said the growth of business and business journalism are interlinked.
They were speaking at a workshop organised by the Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) with the support from 'Manusher Jonno' at a hotel in Chittagong Tuesday.
Editor of The Financial Express Moazzem Hossain moderated the workshop.
Journalists and businesspeople at the workshop stressed the need for working together to boost economic growth in the country. First Vice-president of BGMEA, Chittagong SM Abu Tayyab said business news is getting good media coverage which proves media are giving due importance to the business sector.
However, he stressed the need for enhancing the capacity of journalists. He said media should come forward to encourage small and medium enterprises.
Purabi General Insurance Co Ltd Deputy Managing Director (DGM) AKM Belayet Hossain said there is a gap between the media and the corporate sector which needs to be narrowed.
The Public Relations (PR) wing can play a vital role in bridging the gap, he added. Belayet also said the concept of PR is not clear to all corporate houses. Bangladesh Shipping Agents' Association Adviser MA Alim said many journalists lack adequate knowledge about corporate affairs.
