S Lanka tea prices mostly weaker in pre-vote lull
11/18/2005

COLOMBO, Nov 17 (Reuters): Sri Lankan tea prices were mostly weaker at auction this week, brokers said yesterday, as many buyers kept away expecting a lull in processing and packing as industry workers took time off to vote at Thursday's presidential poll.
"With the elections, there is the likelihood of not being able to process for several days ahead due to the limited number of working days ahead," said Yshan Fernando, Managing Director of Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers.
Many tea sector workers were planning to take Friday off to make a long weekend, meaning the industry will be largely idled until Monday, when there will be another auction.
