Share prices post moderate gains on bourses

          Share prices posted moderate gains on the country's two bourses Wednesday, propelled mainly by banking, financial and engineering stocks, brokers said.
They said the investors purchased scrips of these sectors heavily during the day's trading anticipating a good return ahead of their financial disclosures for 2004.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) benchmark index advanced 15.55 points or 0.79 per cent to close at 1958.96, while Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) benchmark index gained 56.88 points or 1.61 per cent to close at 3575.89.
The DSE blue-chip index - the DSE-20 - rose 18.20 points or 0.84 per cent to close at 2166.03, while the CSE blue-chip index - the CSE-30 - gained 66.32 points or 1.96 per cent to close at 3449.31.
UCBL rose 10.65 per cent to close at Tk 1615.50 per share to become the topmost gainer of the day. Its 8,295 shares valued at Tk 13.51 million changed hands.
The UCBL gained sharply on the news that the bank would offer bonus or rights shares to raise its paid-up capital.
Uttara Finance lost 5.78 per cent and closed at Tk 1298.25 per share to become the topmost loser at the DSE. The share fell because of profit-taking by investors.
Of the total 190 issues traded Sunday in the DSE, 79 gained, 83 declined and 28 remained unchanged, while in the CSE, out of 85 issues traded, 51 gained, 28 declined and six remained unchanged.
About 4.42 million shares and debentures worth Tk 580.37 mil-lion changed hands on the day against 3.55 million shares and deben-tures valued Tk 572.92 million of the previous trading day.
A number of 190 issues were traded on the day including 79 gainers, 83 losers and 28 remain-ing un-changed on the day, as estimated on the basis of closing prices.
The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 235.70 billion from Tk 232.98 billion.
Exim Bank was the top trade turn-over leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 73,500 shares valued at Tk 52.75 million changed hands. The price of the issue increased by 2.63 per cent to close at Tk 719.50.
Heidelberg Cement was a major trade turnover leader, in terms of volume, on the day. Its 699,500 shares worth Tk 13.54 million were traded. The price of the issue rose by 9.89 per cent to close at Tk 20.00 on the day.
Tallu Spinning was the top losing issue on the day. Its price decreased by 8.89 per cent to close at Tk 74.25. Its ten shares worth Tk 700.00 changed hands.
Saleh Carpet was a major gaining issue on the day with its 25,000 shares valued at Tk 25,000 being transacted. The price of the issue rose by 11.11 per cent to close at Tk 1.00 on the day.
NCC Bank was a major performer on the day with its 60,350 shares valued at Tk 39.44 million being traded. The price of the issue fell by 1.25 per cent to close at Tk 646.75.
In the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) All-Share Price Index moved up by 1.62 per cent to close at 3575.89 points from 3519.01 points of Tuesday, the previous trading day.
The CSE-30 Index rose by 1.96 per cent to close at 3449.31 points from 3382.98 points.
A total of 1.66 million shares and debentures worth Tk 121.49 million changed hands on the day against the previous day's 1.14 million shares and debentures valued at Tk 116.28 million of the previous day.
The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 214.90 billion from Tk 211.84 billion.
The total number of contracts increased to 3,970 from 3,825 of previous trading day.
A total of 85 issues were traded on the day. Of them, 51 gained, 28 declined and six remained unchanged.
Fahad Industries was the top gaining issue on the day. Its price rose by 25.71 per cent to close at Tk 4.40 from Tk 3.50. Its 1,500 shares valued at Tk 6,450.00 were traded on the day.
Raspit Limited was the top losing issue on the day. Its price fell by 6.67 per cent to end at Tk 1.40 from Tk 1.50. Some 21,000 of its shares worth Tk 30,400.00 changed hands on the day.
Dhaka Bank was the top trade turnover leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 10,591 shares valued at Tk 12.85 million were traded. The price of the issue went up by 1.95 per cent to close at Tk 1,213.50 from Tk 1,190.25.Rupali Bank was a significant performer on the day. Its 15,170 shares valued at Tk 10.05 million changed hands. The price of the issue gained by 6.25 per cent to close at Tk 635.25 from Tk 595.25.
