BEIJING, Mar 9 (CEIS): Mitsubishi, one of Japanese handset producers, has decided to withdraw from the hot Chinese handset market, echoing another two Japanese companies, Toshiba and Panasonic, who had already retreated from the Chinese market. Insiders with Mitsubishi's Chinese handset branch revealed that the company's manufacturing plant in Hangzhou would also be closed soon. According to insiders, the company's staff, including R&D and production technicians, those for marketing and after-sale services as well as those in Beijing headquarters and sales departments will be laid off. It is learned that the production of Mitsubishi Hangzhou handset plant has been suspended, and the after-sale service for Mitsubishi handsets has been transferred to corresponding dealers. In addition to fiercer competition in the Chinese handset market, Japanese companies' failure is also attributable to their late entry into Chinese market and the malfunction of localisation efforts in comparison with European and US competitors.
