LETTER TO EDITOR

Eden College affairs
3/19/2006

WE were shocked to see the pictures on television and also in newspapers. This is now a topic of hot talks in the country. I am mentioning here the recent happenings in the Eden Girls' College where the general students were mercilessly beaten up by the alleged 'cadre' activists of the ruling party's student front. The reason why such activists went on rampage is shameful. The general students protested their ugly seat business. Such cadre leaders are involved in selling the seats to the students, depriving the innocent, but genuine students.
The role of the college authorities is highly deplorable. Instead of taking actions against the culprits, they rather instigated them to create chaos on the college compound. This is really why leaders of the ruling party could not or did not take stern steps to make sure that their activists do not cross the limit.
People would have been much happier if the authorities concerned would have taken some stern measures against such 'cadre' activists who have been doing their roaring business in seat business in the residential halls of the college. Eden College must be saved from destruction. Those in charge of running the administration of the college should quit. One does not need much evidence to know that the high-ups in college administration have already lost much of their authority and also the honour in which they have so far been held by pupils. Their taking sides with the goons is not only a sign of how obliged they are to these hooligans for their continued stay in her jobs but also an indication of how vile the atmosphere has become in many of our schools, colleges and universities.
