Khaleda Zia meets Turkish President Sezer
Istanbul to fortify economic, trade ties with Dhaka

          ISTANBUL, Apr 15 (UNB): Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has expressed his country's willingness to transform the existing brotherly relations between Bangladesh and Turkey into strong economic and trade ties for shared prosperity of the two peoples.
The Turkish leader expressed this when visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, on the third day of her tour of Turkey, called on him at the Presidential Palace here Friday afternoon.
Both sides showed interest in working more closely in combating international terrorism and establishing world peace.
The Prime Minister and the President both stressed the need for identifying new areas of cooperation for the welfare and benefit of the two peoples.
President Sezer said Turkey is interested to enhance relations in all areas of cooperation, including trade and commerce, economy and investment, for welfare of the people of the two brotherly countries.
Terming Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's visit well timed and very important, the Turkish President said the visit would help to further intensify the relations between the two countries.
In response, Khaleda Zia said Bangladesh considers Turkey as a friendly country and would work towards unimpeachable fostering of the excellent bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Khaleda welcomed Turkish investment and joint-venture investment for infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister requested Turkey to import pharmaceuticals, jute and jute products, ceramics and leather and leather products from Bangladesh.
During the meeting, they also discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern, cooperation in science and technology, education, and agriculture.
Both sides also expressed their interest in renewing the existing cultural agreement.
Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan and the Turkish Women Affairs minister were also present at the meeting.
