US-ICDDR,B sign MoU on technical assistance to combat avian flu
4/25/2006

The US government would provide technical assistance to the ICDDR,B to combat avian influenza, reports BDNEWS.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed in Dhaka between the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) and Centre for Health and Population Research of ICDDR,B Monday.
The MoU aimed at establishing cooperation between the two sides to resist emerging infectious diseases with special attention to avian influenza.
Assistant Secretary for Public Health Emergency Preparedness of USDHHS Stewart Simonson and Executive Director of ICDDR,B David A Sack signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.
Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Abdullah Al Noman, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and the US Ambassador in Bangladesh Patricia Butenis were present in the programme.
Abdullah Al Noman said, the combined effort of ICDDR,B, DHHS and Bangladesh government would forge a strong alliance to combat the dangerous viral disease 'Bird Flu', though he strongly denied any presence of Bird Flu virus in Bangladesh.
