6/29/2006

KUSHTIA, June 28 (UNB): A terrorist was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and the police at Sadarpur Union in Mirpur Upazila in the district early today (Wednesday).
The deceased was identified as Marajul alias Guddu (32). He was wanted in eight cases including three murder cases.
The police sources said they had arrested Guddu, a notorious terrorist from Hidarapur village of the upazila Tuesday noon.
Acting on his statement, local police took Guddu near Tamaltala road for arms recovery.
But as soon as the law enforcers along with Guddu reached the spot at about 4.00am, his accomplices opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.
Guddu was caught in the crossfire while trying to flee from police custody and died on the spot, the police sources said.
The police later recovered a pipe gun and several rounds of bullet from the scene.
Another report adds from Chittagong: Two alleged criminals were killed in separate encounters between the law enforcers and their cohorts in the district early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain (29) of Joralganj village in Mirsharai Upazila, wanted in 14 cases including several murders and pirate gang leader Nurul Islam (35) of Anwara Upazila, wanted in 12 criminal cases.
In another incident, acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Nurul Islam from Banshkhali Sadar Tuesday early morning.
