To provide a countrywide security cover during Ramadan, Durga Puja, Eid and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit, the government begins law-and-order meetings in divisional headquarters from today (Tuesday), reports UNB. With State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar in the chair, the meetings will be attended, among others, by divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, deputy inspectors general of police (Ranges), police commissioners, superintendents of police and commanding officers of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The state minister will be accompanied, among others, by Cabinet Secretary Sadaat Hossain, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Abdul Qaiyum, Director General of RAB Abdul Aziz Sarker and Additional IGP (Special Branch) Farruk Ahmed, according to the Home Ministry sources said. The first divisional meeting is going to take place in Khulna today to take stock of the law-and-order situation of the crime-prone region. The region will also cover Barisal division. Sources said the agenda of the first meeting include journalist killing in southern area, violence over shrimp enclosure, piracy especially in Sundarbans area, extremist problem and especial security for minority. The second meeting will be held at Rajshahi Circuit House on September 29 (Thursday) and the third meeting for Chittagong and Sylhet divisions will be held at Chittagong Circuit House on October 1. On October 4, the last meeting of the series will be held at the conference room of the Home Ministry in city for stocktaking of the situation in the division, including the capital, and taking appropriate security measures.
