Omar Faruk reaches quarterfinals

          Bangladesh's top seed Omar Faruk Sani is the lone local player to reach the boys' singles quarterfinal of the Asian Under-14 Series Tennis tournament with seven other players eliminating his compatriot Rezman Ahsan 6-4, 6-3 at the Ramna National Tennis Complex in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
He will play the quarterfinal against Akio Sy of the Philippines today (Wednesday).
But in the girls' singles, all the Bangladeshi players quit the race before reaching the semifinals Tuesday.
In the seven other boys' singles matches, tournament top seed Hutaruk Farulian (Indonesia) beat Mir Abu Sayed (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0, Sameer Paranjape (India) defeated Arif Hossain (Bangladesh) 6-3, 6-4, Ronak Manuja (India) beat Rafiqul Islam (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0, Sudanwa Sitaram (India) defeated Jamil Bhuiyan (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0, Akio Sy (Philippines) beat Arzyaman Boroowa (India) 6-0, 6-1, Mansingh Athore (India) eliminated Sabbir Rezwan (Bangladesh) 6-2, 6-1 while Arvind Fernando (Sri Lanka) beat Saleem Sadman (Bangladesh) 6-1, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals.
In the girls singles, four players -- Grace Sari Ysidora and Nadia Frederika (Indonesia), Naik Adnyaa (India) and Neesha Thirumalaichelvam (Malaysia) -- advanced to the semifinals eliminating their Bangladeshi opponents in the quarter-finals today.
Tournament top seed Grace Sari (Indonesia) eliminated Sadia Hossain (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0, Neesha (Malaysia) beat Ma Hai Ching (Bangladesh) 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, Naik Adnya (India) defeated Kibria Zaman Bhabna (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0 while Nadia (Indonesia) beat Mahbub Mehzabin (Bangladesh) 6-0, 6-0 .
The girls' singles semifinals and boys' singles quarterfinal matches will be held today (Wednesday).
Besides, eight boys' singles and two girls' singles consolation matches were also held at the same venue.
