KARACHI, Sept 29 (Reuters): Pakistan's palm oil prices have been firm on high domestic demand ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan but dealers said Wednesday demand was likely to ease in coming months. "Imports have remained high in recent month as most dealers covered their positions ahead of Ramadan," said Akbar Puri, a Karachi-based importer. "This high demand has also kept prices firm in the domestic market," he said. Ramadan is a period of high oil consumption in Pakistan, as people breaking their dawn-to-dusk fasts traditionally eat fried foods. The beginning of the fasting month, falling in the first week of October this year, depends on the sighting of a new moon. Puri said palm oil imports were likely to fall in coming months, when locally produced cottonseed would be available in the market.
